I have a connection to this story - I went to Ohio U. about 11 miles from Nelsonville and lived in this area for 7 years - including working in Nelsonville for a short period. And, yes, I know the actual Scenic Railway Train of the story - quotes from the hilarious link:
ATHENS, Ohio -- In retrospect, maybe a 250,000-pound diesel locomotive wasn’t the best choice for a getaway vehicle. That may be what two teenaged boys were thinking after their arrest in Hocking County early Tuesday morning. The pair, who ran away from the Hocking Valley Community Residential Center in Nelsonville around 8:30 p.m. Monday, were apprehended after they allegedly stole a train - yes, that word was train - and drove it about 12 miles, nearly to Logan, before stopping and giving themselves up.....On Wednesday, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen issued a news release saying the train theft points up the need for better railroad security. 'If you can't secure a potential weapon of mass destruction from kids, how could we ever think our rail networks are safe from terrorist acts?' asked BLET lobbyist Timothy R. Hanely, quoted in the release
Much more to Barf and Stew about at the link - find out why one kid was able to drive a train, etc.... http://convo.us/conversations/6131-train-theft-by-escaped-youth-offenders-triggers-call-for-better-rr-security
More Barf Stew News - The Top Ten Biggest Party Schools - http://www.toptentopten.com/topten/biggest+party+schools - I have a connection to this story: (lol)
5. Ohio University -- Athens Athens, Ohio Not all OU students party out of bounds, but enough students love to recreate that "On the weekends you could definitely find a party anywhere on campus, and all the bars are packed, especially on game nights." The school throws a number of organized campus-wide parties, including a legendary Halloween festival that involves "the largest block party in the US." "No one misses out on Halloween. Even the graduates come back," one student reports. Students who considered Ohio University -- Athens also looked at University of Akron, University of Texas at Austin, University of Cincinnati and University of Dayton.
BTW, the number one party of the year - as voted on in the Town Paper - was a block party of over 10,000. (thanks to my buddy Andoy for this link)
